How a Monterrey plant gets chosen for your part
How Mexico production is selected
Our U.S. team scopes the delivered part, from fabrication and inspection through freight and duties. It resolves drawing gaps and qualifies the Monterrey, Nuevo León production partner against your requirements before proposing the route.
Once a Mexico route is approved, Sheet Metal Mexico's U.S. engineering and program team manages supplier communication, inspection requirements, freight, and delivery through one point of contact.

From drawing to delivery on a Mexico sheet metal job
Five steps from quote to delivery
A U.S. account manager coordinates every documented handoff, confirming material, sequence, inspection requirements, and delivery plans before production begins.
-
Quoting: files, material, annual volume, and manufacturability get reviewed; tooling, production, freight, and customs go into the quote.
-
Order placement: the production agreement, facility assignment, and tooling and first-article schedule get approved.
-
Tooling and first article: samples and the required documentation package are defined before production release.
-
Production: the agreed process controls and traceability requirements carry through the run.
-
Customs and shipment: eligibility, documentation, and truck delivery are confirmed.

Common questions about sheet metal work in Mexico
Frequently asked questions
Where are parts manufactured?
Mexico is evaluated for each part. If a Monterrey partner can meet the drawing, capacity, and quality plan, the written quote names that plant and our U.S. team manages the approved program. If no Mexico route fits, we say so before discussing another origin.
What timing should a new program allow?
There is no standard lead time for every part. The written quote breaks out tooling, first-article approval, production, and transit for the assigned plant before you commit.
Who manages customs and freight?
For approved programs, we coordinate origin documents, classification, commercial invoices, customs, and freight as importer of record. Freight and duty assumptions are shown in the written quote, with any adjustment terms stated before order approval.
What quality controls support production?
We verify the assigned plant's certifications and process scope before quoting. Inspection, traceability, third-party review, and any PPAP documentation are specified in the quality plan for the part rather than assumed for every program.
